J.K. Rowling sells Edinburgh house

JK Rowling J.K. Rowling has sold her house for almost $4 million. The Edinburgh home where the Harry Potter author wrote four of her best-selling novels has been snapped up after just three weeks on the market, fetching far more than her original asking price. James Whitson, the director of estate agents Rettie & Co. responsible for the sale, said: "This was an iconic house in Edinburgh and it was a privilege to be entrusted with its sale. There is a shortage of quality supply in Edinburgh and that when any property is correctly priced, in a prime location, it will attract significant interest and, in most cases, a buyer." The 19th-century mansion in Abbotsford Park was bought by the popular author in 1999 and she lived there with her family - her husband Neil, daughters Jessica and Mackenzie and son David - for 10 years. The stylish property features eight bedrooms, landscaped gardens and original cornices and fireplaces. Rettie and Co. said the listing attracted over 16,000 hits on their website, with 65 percent of views coming from overseas. Asian and American fans were especially keen to see where their favourite author lived, The Telegraph newspaper reports. However, those who actually visited the property were exclusively wealthy businessmen looking for a base in the Scottish capital. The 47-year-old literary whiz originally owned the top half of the house, but bought the remainder of the property from her neighbors and converted the mansion into one home after her wizarding franchise took off.
