Alec BaldwinThe American Place Theatre’s Literature to Life program’s newest campaign, Project 451, has been created to provide free access to this nationally acclaimed arts and literacy program for thousands of underserved students. The 2009 Literature to Life Awards Gala will honor Ray Bradbury for his classic American novel, Fahrenheit 451. Based on this year’s honoree, Project 451 was created in response to countless requests from principals and teachers in need of funding for educational programs, and has already seen an outpouring of support. Celebrities such as Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Sam Waterston have contributed by recording clips for the Project 451 Living Library. David Kener, Executive Director of The American Place Theatre, is passionate about the project, saying. “We really must be vigilant about this. How we respond to these trying times will be a measure of how we define ourselves as a culture. As Ray Bradbury said, ‘You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture, you just have to get people to stop reading them.’”

Totally agree, Jo-Anne, literacy is something I’ve always taken very seriously. When I see a child learning how to read, or an adult for that matter, it is always such a good feeling.

You’re so interesting! I don’t think I’ve read through something like that
before. So nice to find someone with genuine thoughts on this subject.
Really.. many thanks for starting this up. This site is one thing that is required on the web, someone with a
    bit of originality!
