Despite critics’ harsh reviews, Obsessed (Tribute viewer rating 1.54) snatched up the number one box office spot this weekend with $28.5 million, leaving competitors in the dust. The Sony stalker thriller centers on a woman (Beyoncé Knowles) whose onscreen husband (Idris Elba)’s world is turned upside down by his obsessive new secretary (Ali Larter). Knowles pulled in her biggest three-day opening for the film since 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember. Zac Efron took the No. 2 box office spot with 17 Again (Tribute viewer rating 3.47), which made another $11.7 million. Fighting (Tribute viewer rating 2.33), a drama about small-town boy being introduced to underground street fighting in New York, took number 3 with a higher-than-anticipated $11.4 million, and the Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx flick The Soloist (Tribute viewer rating 2.83) came in at fourth with $9.7 million. Disneynature’s earth (Tribute viewer rating 4.21) grossed about $8.6 million at number 5, awarding it the best domestic opening ever for a nature documentary. ~Meryl H.
