Osmond doesn’t make the cut on American Idol

By Alexandra Heilbron on February 5, 2009 | 12 Comments

David OsmondDonny Osmond’s nephew, David Osmond, 29, didn’t make the cut last night on American Idol. In a frustrating turn of events, viewers were not even shown his performance in the group round. Known as a group singer with a talent for harmonizing with other voices, it was expected that David, whose father is Alan Osmond, the eldest of the singing Osmond Brothers, would excel during this portion of the auditions. It’s rumored he had laryngitis and was unable to perform, but since the audience was not let in on it, it came as quite a disappointment, especially since he’d shown so much talent and poise earlier in the competition. Not surprisingly, “Bikini Girl” (Katrina Darrell) also got the boot after letting her teammates down with her barely adequate singing voice. Despite Kara’s advice not to wear anything to the next audition, Katrina came fully clothed, thus allowing the male judges to hear her lack of talent more clearly this time. Next week, the number of contestants will be whittled down to 36, and its rumored that Michael Castro (former contestant Jason Castro’s little brother) has made it, as has the emotional and multi facially-pierced Nathaniel Marshall, the incredibly funny Nick Mitchell, blind musician Scott MacIntyre and Joanna Pacitti, who once played Annie on Broadway.

Darn, I wanted him to win the whole thing, he’s amazing! I hope he starts a career anyway.

    I second that!

Another untalented Osmond that’s a surprise.

Actually he was really good, but the group he was in was pathetic.

I would have liked for him to go on just to see how well he would have done. Even if you don’t like the Osmonds is no reason to stone David when we didn’t even get a chance to hear him. I think he deserved a chance but you could tell from the look on Simons face in the first audition he was not going to let this guy go very far. I think Simon had a lot to do with this one.

I love Simon! Not literally but he’s the best on the show!

Finally, almost time to start watching a complete Idol show…weed out the lesser talent and on with the worthwhile contestants

I didn’t see Osmond compete but from what I’ve seen so far, too bad they didn’t dump Kara along the way

Simon, I agree, is the best of the judges, he may come across over the top at times to some but he really knows his stuff

I will be surprised if I find this year’s winner as good as David Cook, but am anxious to see the really good performers…

I love Kara, she’s my favourite judge. She’s really cool and fair and man, can she sing!

I think they ousted him too soon. They didn’t
want him to exceed – cause of the Osmond name.
Thought he was really talented – and humble –
    a really sincere guy.
ONE COMMENT: LOSE KARA! Who is “F” is she?
Love the 3 original judges. and YES Jo-Anne,
I totally agree – Simon does “KNOW HIS STUFF”
He can predict in an “instant” if they are “IDOLS” or not. I LOVE THE SHOW!

Nah, I don’t like Kara either. She seems to like to make fun of some of the contestants…and I get the impression that she is a little jealous of some of them and has to try to prove that she is a better singer than they are. Bikini girl for instance (man, she was a real B! and I’m very ecstatic that she is gone!), Kara was totally jealous and felt she had to stand up and let everyone hear HER sing! I also find that she and Paula (and I find this with Paula EVERY season), like to get right in there and praise, smile and kinda make googley eyes at some of the more “handsome” contestants. Has anyone else noticed this? There is one contestant that I think just may win this season…I think his name is Danny..?? His wife has passed. I think he is a great singer, he also gets “googley eyes” from Kara and Paula!! 😛

Nancy – I am beginning to agree with your views more and more each day. I totally agree about Danny. He is absolutely amazing and is my pick to win!!
