The return of the Star Wars franchise this decade has been a roller-coaster ride for fans ever since Disney purchased LucasFilm from the creator himself, George Lucas. Though the record-setting The Force Awakens from J.J. Abrams is memorable in its own right, the divisive nature of Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi easily trumps it, but for the wrong reasons. Fans and critics always seem to be at odds, but it reached a fever pitch with this sequel and it has gone on to affect the perception and perspective of the franchise moving forward.
