Gone With the Wind (1939)

This may be the oldest film on this list, but it has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 91 percent and is also the winner of eight Academy Awards (it was nominated for 13 in total), including Best Picture. It was the must-see film of the time, and for many years, it was the top-grossing film of all time at the box office. Hattie McDaniel became the first African-American to win an Academy Award for her performance as Mammy, while Vivien Leigh won for her role as the spoiled Southern beauty, Scarlett O'Hara, who goes through many trials and tribulations during the American Civil War.
