The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)

This 2003 adaptation of the Alan Moore comic is easily one of the most notorious films of its time for being the movie that got star Sean Connery to retire from acting, and for good reason. Stephen Norrington and the rest of the filmmakers essentially dumbed down Alan Moore's comic into a run-of-the-mill summer blockbuster, robbing its characters of the depth and flaws that made them memorable to comic readers. Their film counterparts were nothing short of typical movie tropes that only added to the stiff dreary mess that this film was. Made in a different time with a greater respect for its source material, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen could have been the literary equivalent of The Avengers.
