Best – Reanimation of the Zombies genre

Much like the vampire sub-genre of films, zombies saw their own reanimation this century after lying dormant for so long. The revival began in earnest with Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later. Though the infected in that film aren't technically zombies, the idea of fast-running infected humans translated over to the next major zombie hit in director Zack Snyder's remake of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, which contrasted the traditional slow zombies of Paul W.S. Anderson's adaptation of the video game Resident Evil. From there the zombie craze went into overdrive. From indie camp like Robert Rodriguez' Planet Terror to tentpole blockbusters like World War Z (pictured) and even international cinema in South Korea's Train to Busan, zombies were in. Additionally, zombie films weren't relegated to straight horror, as the sub-genre showed some versatility with comedy in Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead, romance in Jonathan Levine's Warm Bodies, and drama in Henry Hobson's Maggie, ensuring this sub-genre won't be put down anytime soon.
