Pacific Rim (2013)

As beloved a filmmaker as Guillermo del Toro is, his movies aren't always the biggest hits. Even when this 2013 original project came to light that brought about the simple premise of giant robots versus giant monsters, it was a surprise to many that this film wasn't as big a hit as other blockbusters. Despite making around $400 million worldwide, the film only found a niche audience in North America, but they were fervent enough to help generate enough interest for a sequel to be made.
