Joe (2013)

Nicolas Cage’s star has faded somewhat this decade, sprinkling in the odd hit every so often, but mostly relegated to low-budget, straight-to-video movies. His over-the-top acting has mostly erased memories of his acting range. However, his 2013 film Joe, from director David Gordon Green, is a terrific reminder of Cage’s ability as a dramatic actor. Though similar to Jeff Nichols’ equally excellent Mud, Joe shows Cage is still capable of delivering subtle and nuanced performances that capture your attention. It’s a must-see for Cage fans.
