The Final Girls (2015)

A PG-13 slasher film is typically a bad idea. The whole point of a slasher film is to see as much blood as possible, which is something the PG-13 rating doesn’t allow for, but in rare cases like The Final Girls, it’s a non-issue. As a semi-meta film that literally throws our hero into an actual slasher movie, there’s a greater emphasis placed on the story and narrative than the kills. Because of that, the film works surprisingly well, as we’re given characters to care about, rather than being served up fodder for bloodthirsty entertainment. In a decade that has seen the horror genre taken to new heights, The Final Girls deserves to be remembered as another classic for the genre.
