Sally Hawkins (2 Oscar Nominations)

English actress Sally Hawkins is a bit of a late bloomer, but age aside, both of her Oscar nominations this past decade are well deserved. Earning nods for Supporting Actress for her role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine as well as Best Actress for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, Hawkins showed remarkable ability as both a scene-stealing supporting character, and a loud physical presence as she maintained her charming personality as a mute in Del Toro’s magical dark fantasy. If not for Lupita Nyong’o’s powerful debut in 12 Years a Slave, or a career best performance by Frances McDormand in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, there’s a good chance Hawkins likely would have her first Oscar.
