Kong: Skull Island (2016)

With Godzilla’s return to the big screen in 2014 it harkened the beginning of Warner Bros.’ shared Monsterverse series of films. While critically praised, one thing lacking was the titular beast and the action it promised. The follow-up film, Kong: Skull Island would look to remedy that with the introduction of original movie monster Kong. Unlike its predecessor, the film wasn’t shy about showcasing its star and throwing him into a variety of scenarios—pitting him against a wide assortment of enemies. From attack choppers to giant squids to his main enemy, the skull crawlers, Skull Island was a feast for the eyes, especially with Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ direction, which allowed the film to stand out when compared to Peter Jackson’s King Kong.
