Les Miserables

British filmmaker Tom Hooper directed this movie adaptation of Cameron Mackintosh’s beloved musical (the longest running in the world) based on Victor Hugo’s lengthy 1862 novel of the same name. Winner of three Academy Awards, Les Miserables tells a story of sin, virtue and redemption set against the political upheaval of 19th Century France.

The story follows Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), who's released from prison after serving 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread. When he breaks parole to create a new life for himself, he spends the rest of his life evading the ruthless Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe).
