Princess Leia in Jabba the Hutt’s palace

The copper bikini Carrie wore as Princess Leia in the scenes after she was captured by the evil villain Jabba the Hutt and made his slave in Return of the Jedi became iconic. However, Carrie hated the metal two piece costume for several reasons. She later told PEOPLE, "When [director George Lucas] showed me the outfit, I thought he was kidding and it made me very nervous." She added that she was "nearly naked, which is not a style choice for me. It wasn’t my choice." Lucas also told her she had to lose weight to fit into the bikini and get toned so there would be no folds or wrinkles. That last bit of direction forced her to sit very rigid and straight during the scene. She also once said: "When I laid down, the metal bikini stayed up. So Boba Fett could see all the way to Florida."

According to Movie Pilot, Harrison Ford didn't agree with the costume choice either. When he was asked his opinion on the slave bikini, he replied, “I didn’t even think it was going to be in the movie. She’s a princess. What the hell is she doing walking around in a bikini?"
