The Terminator (Terminator 2: Judgment Day)

This is quite possibly one of the few examples where a character being killed off has the power to make grown men cry! The famous scene at the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day — in which The Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) decides it's time to permanently power down to ensure a safe future for John — is a moving scene. The fact that a robot with no element of human emotion can still evoke an emotional response and take on the self-sacrificing protector role shows the power of James Cameron's script and direction. And that thumbs up as he's lowered into the molten steel? — excuse me, I need a moment. *bawls uncontrollably*
