Road to Perdition (2002)

Here’s a surprise for you—this Oscar-winning film was adapted from a graphic novel of the same name, which itself was influenced by the Japanese manga series Lone Wolf and Cub. Written by Max Allan Collins with art by Richard Piers Rayner and published in 1998 by the DC Comics Imprint Paradox Press, the film mostly stayed true to the graphic novel, with a few changes. Names were shortened (O’Sullivan to Sullivan) or altered (Looney to Rooney), the violence was scaled back, dialogue was minimized, Jude Law’s Maguire was entirely original to the film. The film’s narration switched perspectives from an older Michael Sullivan Jr., now a priest, to a younger Michael Sullivan Jr. (Tyler Hoechlin).
