Momentous Oscar Firsts
This year’s Oscars have yet to be handed out, but even the list of nominees presents a few milestones worth noting. For the first time, at least one black actor is in the running for a golden statuette in each of the four acting categories (to be precise, the six black actors nominated this year is a record itself). Amazon has become the first streaming service to snag a Best Picture nomination after backing the drama Manchester by the Sea. Australia received its first Best Foreign Language Feature nod with Tanna‘s place on the ballot.
