West Side Story – December 10

Like Guillermo del Toro, Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg is back after a bit of a hiatus with the musical drama West Side Story. At this point in his career, there isn't much Spielberg hasn't done as a director, except musicals — and he gets to dip his feet into this style of film with this adaptation of the Arthur Laurents book and stage play. The film is in essence a contemporary take on the Shakespeare classic Romeo & Juliet, but set in 1960s New York with rival gangs substituting the rival families. With an aim to be closer to the book than the original film adaptation, Spielberg's vision of West Side Story is one remake that simply can't be written off.
