Open Water (2003)

Filmed with real sharks in the middle of actual open water and inspired by the true story, this film follows a married duo who go missing after their diving boat accidentally leaves them behind. The film was a success and spawned a franchise, with Open Water 2 and Open Water 3. Although eventually, they jumped the shark. Did you know where the term "jump the shark" comes from? In the fifth season of the 1970s sitcom Happy Days, Fonzie goes waterskiing and takes a ramp jump over a shark that's swimming underneath. The term immediately became known as the point at which something has crossed the line and become ridiculous — basically, it's outlived its shelf life.
