Girl, Interrupted (1999)

A psychiatric facility may not be the first place you'd look to find a coming-of-age story. However, Girl, Interrupted is a refreshing take on a depressed teen's journey into womanhood, given the unconventional setting. Loosely based on the 1993 memoir of Susanna Kraysen, the film explores many different types of mental health issues, and the emotional impact they can have on individuals. Angelina Jolie's Oscar-winning performance as calculating, manipulative sociopath Lisa is a standout.
