Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

With every other major film and role in Johnny Depp's career named thus far, the top selection could be none other than the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Though the recent sequels may have soured some audiences, Depp truly did create a character for the ages in The Curse of the Black Pearl against all odds. Let's not forget that this film franchise is based entirely on a theme park ride, so for Depp to come out on top with such an affable and dynamic character that is carried entirely through his pure charisma is astounding. There's a reason why Depp received his first Oscar nomination for this role, and when revisiting this film it's easy to see why Captain Jack Sparrow became such a lovable character. Although his time as Jack may be up with the Pirates franchise rebooting with Margot Robbie, make no mistake—it entirely exists because of this character and Depp's performance.
