All the Money in the World (2017)

Ridley Scott's 2017 biographical crime drama about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III is one of the more famous cases of late reshoots being made before a film's release. With Kevin Spacey's career imploding in late 2017, Sony and Ridley Scott found themselves in an awkward position for this awards hopeful film. Looking to keep the film in the running for the upcoming awards season, the studio and director made the bold decision to keep the film's original release date and instead take an additional week of filming for reshoots. Christopher Plummer was brought in to replace Spacey, and miraculously the film was finished on time for its intended release. Although it didn't set the box office on fire, Sony’s decision did yield some of its intended goals, as Plummer would eventually garner a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination at the coming awards season, exactly what Sony was hoping for with Spacey's original casting.
