E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

The idea for the sequel to this classic movie had already been conceived and had a title. Director Steven Spielberg and Melissa Mathison, who wrote the first E.T. film, had already written a treatment for the new movie. It was called E.T. 2: Nocturnal Fears, but Spielberg scrapped the idea, saying it would "rob the original of its virginity." We did, however, get a "sort of" sequel when E.T. and Elliott reunited for a Comcast Xfinity commercial in 2019.
