Aladdin – $356 million

The second of Disney’s live-action remakes of beloved animated classics, Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin was by all accounts a surprise success, given the negative first impression of Will Smith’s Genie. However, once audiences got past the awkward-looking blue Will Smith from the film’s initial trailer, audiences came around and gave the film some legs as it remained in the top five for weeks on end, helping push its domestic total to an impressive $356 million. The film’s strong repeated business helped surpass industry expectations by a wide margin as the film became Disney’s third billion-dollar film of the year, after March’s Captain Marvel and April’s Avengers: Endgame
