Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

This biographical film is set in 1985 Dallas, where a man named Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey, in an Oscar-winning performance), who frequently uses cocaine and has sex with hookers, learns from doctors that he's HIV-positive and will die within 30 days. Ron meets transgender woman Rayon (Jared Leto, also in an Oscar-winning role), and finds out the drug intended to aid his HIV can actually be lethal to infected people. After discovering a doctor with a revoked license uses alternative drugs to treat AIDS, he decides to sell the same drugs in Dallas with Rayon. They create the Dallas Buyers Club, where members pay $400 a month to have the drugs they need. However, the FDA does not accept this and he is oppressed by the authorities.
