The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)

The Oscar winner for Best Costume Design in 1995, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is often credited for bringing drag queens to the masses. The Australian road film tells the story of queens Felicia Jollygoodfellow (Guy Pearce) and Mitzi Del Bra (Hugo Weaving), and their transwoman friend Bernadette (Terrence Stamp), as the trio take the arid outback by storm, hitching up their skirts and grooving to Gloria Gaynor. With sequins and gaudy make-up galore, the film helped introduce audiences to positive representations of diverse LGBTQ characters on screen.
