Twin Films From Competing Studios

A lack of originality is often a major criticism for Hollywood. From sequels to remakes, Hollywood sometimes takes the easy route in getting audiences to theaters. Another method studios take is watching the competition and capitalizing on similar ideas. What happens as a result of this are “twin films,” films that on a broader sense are essentially the same or built on the same foundations of characters, moments, or plot points. Take for instance this summer’s Rocketman, which feels like Paramount Pictures’ response to Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody in making a timely musical biopic of iconic figures Elton John and Freddie Mercury. This is the latest in a long line of twin films. Here are 24 more instances of twin films over the years. ~Paolo Maquiraya
