The sequel to the Academy Award-winning The Silence of the Lambs saw Anthony Hopkins return as the infamous Hannibal Lecter, but Jodie Foster declined the opportunity to come back. In the first film, Foster played FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling. Foster had always wanted to return to the screen with Hopkins, but she backed out of Hannibal after reading the script, saying she thought it betrayed Clarice's character. Instead, Julianne Moore took over the role.
