Prom Night steals box office crown

Prom NightProm Night, a low-budget remake of a 1980 horror flick, was the surprise winner at the weekend box office, pulling in $22.7 million (all figures US). Another new release, Street Kings starring Keanu Reeves, debuted in second place, earning 12 million. Last week’s top film, 21, showed no signs of folding in its third weekend of release, raking in an additional $11 million in third place. Nim’s Island, starring Jodie Foster, Abigail Breslin and Gerard Butler, dropped one spot from third place to fourth with $9 million. Last weekend’s second place movie, Leatherheads, dropped three spots, rounding out the top five with $6.2 million.
