So You Think You Can Dance Canada cancelled

CTV has axed the high-rated dance competition reality show So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Although it ranked as one of the highest rated Canadian-produced shows on the air, averaging just over a million viewers each week, it had reportedly dropped 27 percent in the ratings for the final episode, and was an expensive show to produce. Bell Media released the following statement: “The producers of So You Think You Can Dance Canada created four seasons of groundbreaking, high-quality television, delivering on a creative level everything you could ask for as broadcaster, and ending on a creative high note. After four seasons and 92 episodes, CTV has decided to pursue other program strategies. This decision was made after careful consideration, including viewership and economic factors. We remain extremely proud of the legacy of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, including raising the profile of dance in this country.” Jordan Clark, 19, of Tottenham, Ontario (pictured above), was crowned winner of the final season, taking home $100,000 and a Chevy Cruze car.

Good we need more sitcoms and less reality shows. People go to TV to escape from reality, not to be reminded how annouying it can be by viewing crap like The Kardashians, Operation Repo, Celebrity Rehab and other shows of that nature. Im not saying all reality shows are horrible but theres just to much of them.

Oh no my dreams of being a professional dancer have been crushed! Boo Hoo! Maybe I should go to school and get an education so I can make something of myself!

Trevor, totally I agree with you. Whether it’s Canadian Idol or SYYCD(Canada or USA), anyone and everyone in the last 5 years has said they’ve waiting their entire life to be on either shows. Honestly, if anyone who wanted to be a singer went through months of hard work and sent demo’s into record labels, the music industry might very well still be alive today and REAL artists would be earning respect rather than people posting 15 minutes of fame online compared to someone who spent months-years tuning themselves. The same goes for dancers, if any of these people wanted to be “something” they didn’t need a reality tv show to make them, they just needed themselves and a something in life to build on..like an “education” to further their goals and dreams. One show down, Canadian Idol to go. I don’t know what will happen when X-Factor Canada is made, that will be, something less than interesting.

Reality show…a decent one that showed and also explained how hard a dancer needs to work to get somewhere. Education right so the higher educated can work in fast food or a discount store. I’m disappointed that I will not be able to watch dancers grow and do fabulous dances. I will not be able to watch my 2 yr. granddaughter coping dance moves or clapping at the end of a dance because she was mesmerized by a dance couple or a dance. Shame on Bell Media for singing the praises of the show, dancers and cancelling. Give me dance over children parading around like adults, stupid comedies that protray perfect families or aliens, the horrors of addictive behaviors cured with in 1 hour, or getting married for a million $$$ after a short period of messing with a group of men or women. Give me dance over FAKE. I thought the last show for Dance Canada aired this Sunday, the 18th. Thanks Tribute if I’m correct I can miss the finally.

How very sad for our younger generation to explore their talent and share with the rest our Canada. This was a great platform to help our dancers break into the industry where other avenues are harder to enter. This should really be reconsidered – Not sure we need more junk on T.V. where the cost of what the viewers are paying for cable these days is unacceptable – hmmmm we only get maybe 1-5 new episodes of a T.V. series then – off we go watching repeats after repeats. Honesty is their anyone in the media that in todays marketing even know anymore how to program exciting T.V. to watch. The reality craze is beyond acceptable anymore it is all garbage. The never ending story of drinking to get drunk, who is kissing whom and how many, to what is happening under the covers – the whole reality phase borders on the line of pornography – are we so proud of this for our kids – or watching our younger generation working hard in their krafts, the practice, the work ethics, the physical endurance that each dancers needs to make it out in the industry whow now that is something that we should all admire and encourage all our kids or do we want them drinking, causing comflict, crashing vehicles, kissing whomever comes along. What a good life this would be for our futures. No I do not have children and nor am I a dancer – but I watch this show for the pure joy of the music, song and dance and the dedication these young dancers bring to a whole of unrest.
