Tom Cruise is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in an upcoming sequel to the ’80s hit, Top Gun. Sources tell UK Sun that the already completed script has Cruise returning to the fighter pilot training school twenty-two years later to take on a teaching position. “The idea is that Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor–and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.” Hollywood is buzzing over the possibility of Katie Holmes joining in on the mix. The couple has yet to appear in a film together, but producers are whispering that the sought-after pair could launch the sequel to mega-hit status. The original film accumulated over $350 million worldwide and broke home video sales records.
Wow, Hollywood must be REALLY desperate to try and revive a 20-year old movie. Of course, I can see them screwing it up like when they did Stealth.
PLEASE say it isn’t so……..
hollywood is running out of ideas, they keep doing remakes, or sequals of movies last seen in the 80’s.
If Tom Cruise is not flying the plane and Kenny Loggins isn’t doing the soundtrack then I’m not watching.
I loved Top Gun…but I don’t know about a sequel especially with Katie Holmes in it…
has Val Kilmer signed up?
I do believe that a sequel would only ruin the classic that is Top Gun. The movie itself is great, don’t bring shame to the name by doing a sequel.
Maybe the female lead could be Jennifer Aniston, and the soundtrack could be by John Mayer… 😀 And, at the same time, Katie can take baby Suri on the Oprah show and let her jump all over Oprah’s sofa!! That would be fun!!!
Bad idea… bad idea. DON’T DO IT!
If they wanna make a fighter pilot movie, then call it something else and use a totally new cast. TOP GUN is a classic, they’ll spoil that ‘classic’ status by making a sequel.
What made TOP GUN so cool, was the real aerial photography by CMDR Charles “Heater” Heatley. Now they’ll use CGI graphics and it’ll be shit, unrealistic and cheesey.
Keep TOP GUN an original classic.
Yet another needless sequel…
nothing good ever comes with doing a movie with your partner. remember eyes wide shut? bad idea tom. bad idea.
I think the world has seen enough of this couple.
Hollywood’s film companies are currently unable to create original material, and they are counting on young people who do not have memories of 20 years ago to be their bread and butter audience. They are also counting on an upsurge of Alzheimer’s disease for maximum profit from movie-goers in general. Quite sad, indeed.
The original Top Gun was not really THAT good. It was simply OK. If it came out tomorrow as it was, it would be laughed straight out of the theatre….
