Watchmen release date may be blocked

By Alexandra Heilbron on January 2, 2009 | 3 Comments

The release date for Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated superhero film Watchmen is March 6th, but a federal judge said this week that he may block the release. Federal judge Gary A. Feess has ruled that 20th Century Fox has distribution rights to Watchmen, even though Warners produced the film and had planned to distribute it. It seems that Fox originally acquired the rights in the late 1980s and spent more than $1 million developing the project, but eventually passed on it. It then wound up with Warner Bros., but Fox retained some rights to the project, according to the judge. A hearing is scheduled for January 20, however, the film’s release may be delayed for an indeterminate amount of time if appeals are launched by either side.

Are you kidding me!! I have been waiting since last year for this movie to come out – dont make the public pay for companies’ lawyers ineptitude. These are details that should have all been taken care of way back when. What we’re witnessing now,is 20th Century Fox is seeing what an incredible cashcow this movie is going to be, and they want dibs on the franchise.
