Born and raised in Hawaii, Maggie Denise Quigley's parents met during the Vietnam War. Her father is Irish American and her mother is Vietnamese. After Maggie graduated from high school, she began modeling and traveled through Asia before winding up in the Hong Kong movie business. Unable to speak Cantonese, she had to learn her lines phonetically. After being cast in a bit role in Rush Hour 2 starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, she began to make a name for herself in Asia, and the media shortened her last name to Q because the Chinese found her full name difficult to pronounce.
Maggie continued to work in the Hong Kong movie industry while slowly adding roles in the American films to her resumé, such as Around the World in 80 Days (2004), Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Priest (2011), starring Paul Bettany.
In 2010 she was cast in the title role in the new TV series Nikita, filmed in Toronto for the CW network. She starred in all four seasons of the show before it concluded in 2013. Maggie then went on to play the role of Tori in Divergent (2014) and its two sequels, Insurgent (2015) and Allegiant (2016).
She then landed a lead role as Hannah Wells on the ABC TV series Designated Survivor, in 2016. The series, which is a mix of action and suspense, starred Kiefer Sutherland and lasted three seasons, coming to an end in 2019.
During hiatus from the show, she appeared in the horror film Slumber (2017) and the comedy film The Con Is On (2018). The cast of this latest feature film included Uma Thurman and Tim Roth. Reconnecting with the world of horror, she was cast as Gwen Olsen in Blumhouse's Fantasy Island (2020), alongside Michael Peña and Lucy Hale.
A vegetarian, Maggie loves animals and once considered becoming a veterinarian. Although she was engaged to actor Dylan McDermott in 2015, the relationship came to an end in 2019.
