Mia Goth was born in London, England to a 20-year-old single mother, but relocated several times throughout her childhood. Her mother is from Brazil and her father is Canadian, originally from Nova Scotia. Mia and her mother moved to Brazil when she was just a few weeks old, before returning to the United Kingdom when she was five. When she was 10, she and her mother joined her father in Canada for two years before settling back in London.
Mia started her career as a model. She was discovered when she was 14 at the Underage Festival in London and signed with Storm Model Management. During her time there, she appeared in ads for high fashion brands such as Miu Miu.
When she was 16, Mia turned to acting, winning her first film role in Nymphomaniac (2013) alongside Willem Dafoe. This is where she met her co-star and soon-to-be boyfriend Shia LaBeouf and soon after, she moved to Los Angeles. In 2014 she starred in the Future Unlimited's music video for Haunted Love, which was directed by Shia. In October 2016, the couple was married at an Elvis-themed ceremony in Las Vegas. They filed for divorce 23 months later, in September 2018.
Mia has appeared in several films since her debut, including The Survivalist (2015), Everest (2015) alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Robin Wright, the horror mystery Marrowbone (2017), Suspiria (2018) and High Life (2018).
She most recently starred in the screen-adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. (2020), playing the role of Emma’s best friend, Harriet Smith. The film reunited her with Anya Taylor-Joy, whom she co-starred alongside in the 2017 film Marrowbone. The two continue to be close friends.
Mia currently lives in Los Angeles. It’s been reported that she has reconciled with Shia, as they have been spotted wearing their wedding bands in public.
