Peter Mullan Biography
This Glasgow, Scotland native found footing in acting, directing and writing. Two years after making his professional debut in theater, Mullan was voted best theatrical performance of the year in Crow. Other theater productions include Macbeth and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (directed by Robert Carlyle).
He first worked with Ken Loach in 1991 on Riff Raff (1990). He has since appeared in The Big Man (1990), Shallow Grave (1994), Braveheart (1995), and as Mother Superior in Trainspotting (1996).
In 1998, he received numerous best actor awards and nominations for his role of a recovering alcoholic in Ken Loach's My Name is Joe. He continues to garner starring roles in films such as Miss Julie (1999) and The Claim (2001).
Peter has directed many television dramas and several short films, including 1995's The Fridge, which won a Scottish BAFTA and many other international awards. His debut feature film Orphans (1997) also won many awards, as did The Magdalene Sisters (2003), which he wrote, directed and played a part.
