Jason Lee was born in California and became an avid skateboarder at 13. Five years later he was boarding professionally, traveling the globe to compete in international events. Now he owns Stereo Manufacturing Corporation, a company that makes skateboards.
At the time he was wheeling his way around the world, he also began acting and is best known for his appearances in the Kevin Smith films Chasing Amy and Mallrats.
He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his performance in Chasing Amy. In Drawing Flies, which was shot in black and white, Lee is part of a group who venture out into the wilds of British Columbia to look for Sasquatch, the legendary half-man-half-ape. Since then, he has appeared in Vanilla Sky (2001) with Tom Cruise, A Guy Thing (2003) with Julia Stiles and Jersey Girl (2004) with Ben Affleck.
In 1995, his hit NBC-TV series My Name is Earl debuted. During its four season run, he was twice nominated for a Golden Globe.
His latest credits include the crime drama Tell (2014), the animated adventure comedy Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip (2015) and the family comedy Growing Up Smith (2017).
Lee's 1995 marriage to actress Carmen Lee ended in divorce in 2001. In 2003, his girlfriend, Beth, gave birth to his son, Pilot Inspektor. He married for a second time in 2008, to Ceren Alkac, with whom he also has a child.
