Welsh actor Luke Evans was born in Pontypool, Wales but grew up in Aberbargoed, South Wales. At the age of 17, he moved to Cardiff where he studied with established vocal coach Louise Ryan. In 1997 Luke attended the London Studio Center, graduating in 2000.
From 2000 to 2008 Luke starred in a number of London's West End productions. In 2008 he landed his most significant role, playing Vincent in the play Small Change (2008).
At the age of 30, Evans auditioned for and won his first movie role. He starred as the Greek god Apollo in Clash of the Titans (2010). The same year he appeared in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll as Clive Richards. Soon after, Evans began starring in big productions with leading roles in films such as Tamara Drewe (2010), The Three Musketeers (2011), and The Raven (2012).
He also appeared as Bard in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), played the lead role in Dracula Untold (2014), and played Scott in the thriller The Girl on the Train (2016), alongside Emily Blunt. He also played Gaston alongside Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the live-action adaptation Beauty and the Beast (2017). His latest role is in the drama Professor Marston & the Wonder Women (2017).
