Great Movie, Excellent script and acting
Perfect, Robbins, Eastwood and Penn could walk away recipients Oscar night. Amazing movie
This is one movie that "tries" to be deep and meaningful but actually doesn`t really offer much that is original. And the wife`s speech at the end justifying her husband`s disgusting vigilante "justice" was offensive to my intelligence. The ending made him seem like the good guy! If there was ever a movie that was irritating, it`s this one.
Fantastic film!!!! Not to be missed!! Super amazing cast and perfomances! Definate Oscar winner!!!!
loved it :)
The ending was unsatisfying, too much like a Western.
Sean Penn was great, but he has done this before. No big stretch. Watch for the boom mike in the interrogation scene with Kevin Bacon and Laurence Fishburn. Very sloppy. Overall, a better-than-average murder mystery, but no way should this film win an Oscar.
Very well done! Lighting is amazing - a work of art, as are the filming, sound and music. Strong performances, especially by Tim Robbins. Best Picture of the year, and in the top 10 of all time!! If you didn`t love this movie, get your intelligence checked.
Best acting have seem in a long time
This was a movie. This is what filmmaking should be. Be thankful, even with the debatable ending, that at least we have a film we care enough to be disspointed with. This film was realistic, with true conflict, gut wrenching suspense and raw emotion. Mr. Penn will win the globe but the academy may not even honor him with a nomination because of the severity of his character. Mr. Robbins, however, won`t but should be nominated for the same categories. True to some other comments, this ending, I believe, was one of the worst in recent history. DON`T FLOG A DEAD HORSE!!
Movie is very well done, acting is great and I think it is a "quality" movie, worthwhile to be seen! Some of the situations during the movie were unclear, though and I felt somewhat disapointed with the ending..
Excellent movie, grim at times and leaves you with a feeling of being emotionally drained. I cried, deep heart felt sobs at some of Sean Penn`s surely oscar winning performance.
Congatulations. A trully wonderfull film. Every element within the film surved its function and purpose, a trully unified piece of work. Sean Penn`s performance was exillarating. We trully feel the horror and pain of death, how friendship can be altered by time and tragedy. This psychological thriller makes the viewer activly participate in the story. A great piece of work.
I thought it was very good.
Although you can see that the story is inexorably leading to the conclusion, you can`t help but feel for characters as they always just miss things.
I think this movie should be nominated for several Oscars!! This was the best movie I have seen all year!
This was a good movie. At the end, I had a creepy feeling, while taking a look and analyzing the characters, after what had happen. Very real feeling. Half way through I figured out who it was, but still found it very interesting unfolding.
i saw this movie today and didnt really know what i was getting into. i was very intrigued from the beginning and it turned into a fantastic movie. for me though, the ending was one of the worst i have seen in a movie. hate to say it but it ruined the entire picture for me. the first 2 hours was 5+ stars, one of the best movies ive seen for a long time.....the last 5 minutes on the other hand was some of the worst movie making i have seen in a long time. go watch it but leave at the beginning of the parade scene!! that way you can make your own ending!
Great movie ! One of the best in 2003
for a change, a movie that made you think beyond the plot lines. one wakes up at night and remembers another obscure detail that adds one more twist, one more connection. performences were riveting and realistic. yup, it was manipultive, but how can a movie not be? directors always want to plant a message, but what is interesting about this movie is that the message changes as you discover more nuances and parallels.
This movie was okay. I gave it a three star rating because although I do admit that the acting was good all around, I do admire Sean Penn with each new role he takes on, however, the overall story wasn`t really anything better than I see on a typical Law & Order episode. I suppose that speaks volumes for the Law & Order writing team, however, when I see a movie, I want something `more` than a television show can offer me.
Great film.
Very thought provoking and extremely well done! I was mesmerized. Can`t understand some of the reviews I`ve read here. They must not have seen the same movie that I saw! I am certainly hoping to see quite a few Oscar nominations come out of this movie, namely Clint Eastwood as best director, Sean Penn as best actor, Tim Robbins for best supporting role. Not to leave out Kevin Bacon who also did a supurb job. My favorite movie in a long time.
Really interesting movie that is almost unbearably chilling at times. Great acting from all three male leads.
I definitely recommemd this movie. The acting was great. The story is tragic and shows the devasting effect that pedophiles have on the lives of people. Not an uplifting movie by any means. Be prepared to think after you have watched it.
Excellent! Sean Penn was well cast for this roll. His character has that layered personality. I felt personally that it`s well deserving of 5 stars. Lots of twists and turns, the ending wasn`t what the "norm" would have expected. Go see it!
Do yourself a favor and skip out on the last 2 minutes of the movie. The ending is horrible, it ruined the whole movie for me. This movie leaves alot of loose ends. Some murders are solved while other are ignored I don`t get it?
Best Male Lead -- Sean Penn Best Supporting Male -- Tim Robbins Best Director -- Clint Eastwood Best Picture -- Mystic River
I thought that the movie was okay, but could have been better. It was very slow at times and a little predictable. The star-studded cast made it interesting, but this will NOT be the movie that will finally win Sean Penn an Oscar!
Great movie with phenomenal acting all around, Penn, Robbins and Bacon were great. The ending was a little disappointing because it doesn`t match the drama and tension found throughout the rest of the movie. But on the whole, it was a very gripping movie that kept my interest right to the end!
good movie/could have been better/expected more/bad ending.
Realistic and Sean Penn`s performace is exceptional. Great Movie if you`re in one of those dark deep thinking kind of moods.
One of the best movies I`ve seen this year. It`s a murder mystery but it`s also about friendship, pain, and it shows that the effects of trauma goes much further than the victim. Interesting challenging script, shows that men have a deep emotional life ...
Slow start, with a disturbing ending. Life appears to go on as usual after the killing of one of the main actors, however they almost try to justify that the killing is okay; or does Kevin Bacon leave us with the thought that one day he will get his man? What did you think?
Mystic River is the Best Film So Far this Year. An Incredible Cast!!! Sean Penn is Remarkable!
Ok , Listen to me....Go see this movie!!It is an amazing story and an all star cast and Penn SHINES!!I couldn`t take my eyes from the screen. 5 Stars!!!
crap
Mystic River is an Emotionally challenged Drama. Eastwood`s best film so far. A perfect Cast!!!
Mystic River is definately one of the years best films. The acting was superb on all levels...in particular Sean Penn`s performance....nothing but OUTSTANDING!! Tim Robbins displayed a quality of acting I haven`t seen since The Shawshank Redemption. This movie compelled me till the very end! One point to note was the ending..with such an intense and emotional film, I expected the accusers to have been more profound and equally as intensive as the film itself. A small disappointment. However, overall OSCAR worthy on many fronts...best picture, best actor (Sean Penn) and best Supporting Actor (Tim Robbins)....
I would really like to know why they call this a thriller. This is a drama if I ever seen one! Very predictable plot and too long and drawn out. Certainly not one of Eastwood`s best ones. Not terrible but certainly not terrific - just ok but I won`t be watching it a second time. I guess overall I was somewhat disappointed.
