Boyle's emotional 127 Hours premieres at TIFF

James FrancoA sneak peak of Danny Boyle's new film 127 Hours last weekend generated an emotional response from filmgoers, and the reaction to the film's premiere at TIFF on Sunday night seemed to be no different.

As Boyle's directorial follow-up to the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours generated a lot of buzz ahead of TIFF, telling the true story of American mountain climber Aron Ralston (played by James Franco) and his adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crushes his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days, Ralston examines his life and survives the elements, before ultimately amputating his own arm to free himself.

Franco, Boyle and Ralston greeted fans at the film's red carpet at Ryerson on Sunday night.  After the premiere, some filmgoers were reluctant to talk about the film, but on Twitter several viewers described Sunday night's screening, which reportedly received a standing ovation, as powerful, riveting and “emotionally draining” with reports that a couple of people did require medical attention at the premiere.

After the sneak peek of the film at Telluride last weekend, the Hollywood Reporter says the climactic scene of his escape “generated groans and squirming” from the audience with the Los Angeles Times saying that many tears were shed.

Anyone else think this movie sounds kinda boring? Kinda like an Open Water thing going on. Not sure Franco has the chops to pull this one off by himself.

i did not think it was boring in any way. Watching him examine his life and make the decision to actually amputate his own arm was breathtaking, and shocking. Myself and many people around me were crying for half the movie.
It was a beautiful film, and Franco's performance was absolutely amazing.
