At the halfway point of the Toronto International Film Festival, news of several distribution deals has already emerged, while some high-profile films are reportedly still waiting to be picked up.
In recent deals, The Hollywood Reporter says that Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the U.S. rights to the French and Arabic-language film Incendies, directed by Denis Villeneuve, which screened last night at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.
In addition to announcing a distribution deal for Sarah’s Key on Friday, The Weinstein Company also reportedly closed a deal for the U.S., U.K., France, Australia, New Zealand and South African rights to road trip film Dirty Girl, starring Juno Temple, Milla Jovovich, William H. Macy and Mary Steenburgen, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Earlier this week, Super, the TIFF Midnight Madness hit starring Ellen Page, was acquired by IFC, while ahead of the festival, both Barney’s Version and Casino Jack were picked up by Sony Pictures Classics and ATO Pictures, respectively.
Among those films still reportedly looking for a distribution deal are Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, as well as The Whistleblower, starring Rachel Weisz and Passion Play, starring Mickey Rourke, Bill Murray and Megan Fox.
Looking back to the start of last year's TIFF, Tribute reported at the time that as of the sixth day of TIFF 2009, no big deals had yet emerged.

Kinda surprised Passion Play hasn't been picked up. The cast alone seems like enough of a draw - anything with Bill Murray's gonna do okay!
Also, speaking of great casts, this is the first I'm really hearing about Dirty Girl. That a really interesting grouping of actors. Gonna have to check it out!
