From roles in An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman and Chicago, Richard Gere has embodied a wealth of diverse characters, and with Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer, he adds one more to that list.
The Golden Globe winner attended the premiere of the film on Monday night at Roy Thomson Hall. He walked the red carpet, along with co-star Lior Ashkenazi and director Joseph Cedar, and spoke about his character.
He said, "I think you're going to empathize with him. I think there's a little of Norman in all of us."
Richard also discussed the side to filmmaking most people fail to recognize.
He said, "You see the situation [here], but you've been on film sets? It's not glamorous, it's hard work, and it's intense. It's long hours, emotionally difficult, so that's really what I do. This is something else."
Norman is about a veteran fixer in New York City's Jewish community who finds himself in over his head when an Israeli dignitary comes for a visit. It co-stars Hank Azaria, Steve Buscemi, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Michael Sheen and Dan Stevens.
