Suze (Michaela Watkins) pampers her daughter Brooke (Sara Waisglass), who's going away to university. Suze doesn't approve of Brooke’s boyfriend Gage (Charlie Gillespie) because she believes her daughter is too good for him. After Brooke moves to Montreal, Suze misses her so much that she calls her over and over, but she gets voicemail every time. Brooke finally calls back, to tell her mother that Gage jumped off the water tower and asks her to check on him in the hospital. The two wind up developing a mother-son relationship, much to Brooke's annoyance.
