The Lifetime Network confirmed that a Brittany Murphy biopic will air on September 6, 2014. The two-hour TV movie titled The Brittany Murphy Story will be the first film about the late actress’ life since her death in December 2009. Television actress Amanda Fuller has been announced to play Murphy in the made-for-TV biopic. Fuller has made appearances on numerous popular series throughout the years, including a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy. Sharon Murphy, Brittany’s mother, will be played by Sharilyn Fenn, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role on Twin Peaks.

The film will reportedly focus on Brittany’s relationship with her mother, who wanted to make a star of her young daughter throughout the ’80s and ’90s. Murphy’s untimely and tragic death at age 32 on December 20, 2009 will also be a subject of the biopic. Her husband, Simon Menjack, died five months later. Coroners concluded the couple died of pneumonia, which has been contested by Murphy’s mother, who suspects the death was not accidental. According to her spokesperson, Sharon Murphy has not been consulted for the project or contributed to the production in any way. The identity of the film’s writer or any source who might be providing biographical detail has yet to be disclosed. ~Daniel Horowitz
