Avengers Tower to be focal point of superhero sequel

Every superhero needs a home base, and if you’re an ensemble like The Avengers, you’re going to need plenty of real estate. In Joss Whedon‘s 2012 blockbuster, The Avengers, the titular superhero team spent the bulk of their time on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarrier before incurring billions worth of New York property damage. Among the wreckage was Stark Tower’s logo, which lost all its signage but the letter “A.” According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, this salute to the premature end of Tony Stark’s new energy project and wink to The Avengers’ future digs establishes a “primary location” for the inevitable sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, due to be released May 1, 2015.

Following the end of S.H.I.E.L.D. (see Captain America: The Winter Soldier), billionaire industrialist Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is footing the team’s bills. “Tony’s bank-rolling The Avengers now,” explains Feige in a recent interview with IGN. “And he’s bank-rolling their headquarters. So it’s now Avengers Tower.”

At the end of the first Avengers film, Tony teased girlfriend Pepper Potts (and audiences) with new virtual plans for the tower. “Tony designed it so in addition to a hanger for a brand-new Quinjet, laboratories, places where he can build and store his Iron Man suits, there are I believe two bars.” Feige adds there will be “Beautiful multiple space living rooms, which are perfect for parties and social gatherings.” Clearly all work and no play makes Stark a dull host. ~Daniel Horowitz
