Bruno banned overseas

brunoSacha Baron Cohen‘s new movie, Brüno, has been officially banned from theaters in the Ukraine. After viewing the film, nine out of the 14-member commission appointed by the Ukraine’s Culture Ministry deemed it “immoral” as well as being “obscene and improper.” They ruled that Baron Cohen displayed an “artistically unjustified exhibition of sexual organs and sexual relations, homosexual acts in a blatantly graphic form, obscene language, sadism, and antisocial behavior which could damage the moral upbringing of our citizens.”  The country says the film’s frontal male nudity, simulated sex acts, homosexual depictions, obscene language, sadism, and anti-social behavior are unfit for public viewing. Baron Cohen’s first comedy, Borat, was banned not only in the Ukraine in 2006, but in Kazakhstan and Russia as well.

This man is a genius. all he is trying to do is show the world how people would react to a person like this. It may be crude, rude, disgusting, pornagraphic, and so many other things people think should be illgeal. But when it comes down to it. Pure genius, I don’t care what anyone says.

We went to see this movie. We both thought it was funny as hell. I must agree though that some parts were just way too much. If you are a homophobe dont bother going, as it is very, very gay.But funny.

I’m surprised only 9 of the 14 said “immoral” and obscene and improper. I’m not trying to say it’s not an entertaining movie, I have not yet seen it nor do I think I want to. However to ban a movie is a bit ridiculous, that’s what ratings are for, adults should be allowed to watch whatever they want and if you go into a movie like this you’d better be open minded or you won’t enjoy it. For me it’s just not my type of humour, therefore I’m not going to spend my money going to see it.

“too gay” ?? what the hell kind of a statement is that?!?! theres no such thing as “TOO GAY” thatd be like saying a movie is too STRAIGHT ! i am offended just by the way people are talking about this movie. it should be banned EVERYWHERE. ive never saw it, but i think this guy is a fool and no one should be spending money to watch him because then he gets rich for being a pig, rude, ignorant and a jerk.

Do you know what the deal was with Borat? Through playing a character that is blissfully ignorant of things like womens issues, or gay rights, etc…he shows OTHER PEOPLES inherent racist points of view. The joke isnt Borat, its the true felings of those who interact with the character.

The same idea is put to use with Bruno. Yes its rude and graphic for a lot of people, but you cant deny it isnt funny, or, like borat, sad that it also shows peoples true feelings towards gays, etc.

It’s rude, crude, very funny and entertaining, but the joke is on the other people in the film, who show themselves off as the homophobic/racist morons they are.

see it for a good laugh, AND, to shake your head in disbelief at other less educated peoples opinions.

    steve c
    I totally agree with you.
It’s how others interact with the character.

steve c, good post but I thought he was funniest in Talledega Nights and a little less funny in his own movies as the over-the-top stuff wears thin over the course of a whole movie. Just my opinion.

“frontal male nudity…unfit for public viewing.”

who knows what may happen once male genitalia are exposed for public viewing…how terribly sexist and pathetic…
