Cars 2 on DVD and Blu-ray

Cars 2, the #1 animated film of the year, is available on Blu-ray and DVD November 1st. Included within the sets is a brand new exclusive animated short entitled Air Mater, starring Mater the Tow Truck, voiced by Larry the Cable Guy. Click here to watch Tribute’s interview with Larry the Cable Guy.

One of the most amazing things about Air Mater is that it has a Canadian connection. The entire short was animated at the new PIXAR studio in Vancouver, which is dedicated to working on shorts based on already established PIXAR characters from films like Cars and Toy Story.

I had the opportunity to visit the impressive Vancouver studio. The three story building has an amazing view of the mountains and is an inspiration for the animators that work there. Watch the video above to see my interview with Rob Gibbs, the director of Air Mater, as he talks about the new short and why he likes working in Canada.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios, the high octane in-home release invites families and fans of all ages to come along on a journey around the world with the #1 animated film of the year. In addition to Air Mater, the animated DVD release also includes Hawaiian Vacation, the delightful animated short that accompanied the film in theaters, and fascinating commentary from award-winning director John Lasseter.

Bonus features include a one-of-a-kind interactive “World Tour” map that takes viewers through nine different locations, including those featured in the film. It allows viewers to go behind-the-scenes with the Pixar artists and filmmakers as they circle the globe finding inspiration for the most international of all Pixar films to date. Cars 2 is also the first Pixar film to be released in spectacular Blu-ray 3D. ~Bonnie Laufer Krebs
