Steven Spielberg is the first filmmaker to adapt Roald Dahl’s beloved 1982 novel for the silver screen, and today, we have the first in-depth glimpse into the enchanting world of The BFG with its first official trailer.
They say the witching hour is at midnight, when the boogeyman comes out. But young Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) knows better — it’s much later, when everyone is fast asleep. Except her, of course.
On one particularly spooky night, at exactly three in the morning, the boogeyman appears. But it isn’t the boogeyman at all, it’s a creature much more peculiar — whose hand is bigger than a couch. With one easy swoop, the creature scoops little Sophie up and out of the window, carrying her far away from her cold, dark orphanage to a vivid land where magic is surely real — the land of the giants. There, she befriends the big, kind, and eccentric giant and learns that life is so much more exciting (and dangerous) than she could have ever imagined.
With wonderful voice and motion-capture acting by Oscar-winner Mark Rylance as the BFG himself, this upcoming fantasy flick is a spectacle of Disney’s animation and Spielberg’s directing at their very finest.
You can check out The BFG when it hits theaters on July 1.

Looks like an interesting movie. But then again, with Steven Spielberg at the helm, I just know it’s going to be a great movie.
