In the past few days, pop singer Justin Bieber has managed to offend people on two continents – Canadian Aboriginals and the British. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the 18-year-old star was asked about his nationality. “I'm actually part Indian. I think Inuit or something?” he began, adding, “I'm enough percent that in Canada, I can get free gas.” Though intended as a joke, the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples was not amused. In response, the Congress said, “These kinds of remarks are another example of what Aboriginal Peoples in Canada struggle with every day. It promotes the misconception that we are somehow getting a free ride.” In addition to offending the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada, Bieber went on to criticize Prince William.
In an interview with British Rollercoaster magazine, Bieber said, “I mean, there are things to prevent that nowadays, like Propecia. I don't know why he doesn't just get those things, those products. You just take Propecia and your hair grows back. Have you not got it over here?” Unfortunately, the pop star is now facing backlash as William’s fans in the U.K. are displeased by his comments. British journalist Jessica Callan states, “[Bieber] needs to be swatted away... Wills may be thinning on top but he is one cool royal and landed himself the hottest future queen England has ever had. How can Justin and his girly hairstyle possibly compete with that?” ~Isabelle Khoo
