Coal Miner’s Daughter (1980)

Real, raw and remarkably acted, Coal Miner’s Daughter is the screen adaptation of Loretta Lynn’s autobiography. Loretta, who grew up in poverty in Butcher Holler, Kentucky, was one of the first female superstars in the country music industry with a strong voice and a penchant for singing about cheating husbands and their wives who refuse to be pushed around. Sissy Spacek deservedly won a Best Actress Oscar for her vivid performance as Loretta, singing the star’s songs herself.

Side note: To prepare for her role, Sissy accompanied Loretta on one of her tours where she studied her stage presence and mastered her mannerisms.
